People visit chiropractors for many reasons, such as: back pain, neck pain, spine alignment, after a car accident or just to improve body functions. Knowing what you should do after you have received chiropractic treatment is just as essential to maximize its benefits.
After your first adjustment you should give your body some time to rest. During a Chiropractic session the doctor will stretch your muscles before performing a spinal adjustment. He will apply short, quick force to the joints to correct a misalignment, increase range of motion or release pressure on nerves. Hence the best thing to do after a chiropractic adjustment is to rest and avoid any strenuous activity.
Optimal hydration is always a good thing. Drinking plenty of water after your adjustment will help nourish the discs between the vertebrae, keeping your spine supple and flexible.
Pay attention to your posture. Our daily living force us to adopt a hunched over posture frequently. Activities such as looking constantly to our phone, driving, and working at a computer can put us in this damaging position. Make a conscious effort to push back your shoulder blades, so that your ears are aligned with your shoulders.
Strengthen your core muscles. Having a strong core will always protect your spine and prevent wear and tear of the vertebrae (arthritis). Yoga, long walks, and daily stretching are all wonderful options to keep in mind.
Keep these tips in mind after your next chiropractic visit, and do not go more than 3 weeks in between each adjustment. Call your chiropractor today and schedule an appointment.
